Those days are gone when MediaTek would produce only low-end processors. 2015 has been a great year for MediaTek. The first half of the year was the success story of MTK 6752 SoC and the ongoing second half is going great for MediaTek with mid-range smartphones because of Helio x10 (MTK 6795).
MediaTek has now set its eyes on the high-end flagship market. While the x20 chipset is yet to make a proper appearance on a device yet, MediaTek is already on the way to the development of Helio x30.
Helio x30 is to be the most powerful SoC MediaTek has been working till now. According to Pan Jiutang, a China-based analyst, the chipset will be manufactured on a 16nm FinFET technology. Helio x30 will use an advanced quad-cluster architecture to accommodate the deca-core processor sporting 4x Cortex A72 cores running at 2.5GHz, 2x Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2GHz, 2x Cortex A53 cores at 1.5GHz and 2x Cortex A53 cores running at 1.0GHz. The chip will also support dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM (1,600MHz) and eMMC 5.1. OEMs will be able to include cameras up to 40-megapixels. Mali-T880 MP4 GPU will be a part of this package. According to the analyst, the MediaTek Helio x30 may come by the second half of the next year.
