After two months of beta testing, Xiaomi has finally released the stable build of MIUI 7 based on Google’s Android 5.1 Lollipop on Tuesday. The MIUI 7 is available to all eligible Mi smartphones around the world over the air. But if you do not want to wait for the OTA update, you can download and install the OS right away following this step-by-step flashing tutorial.
Of course, OTA (over-the-air) updates are easy to install and run compared to manually updating the software. But due to high traffic, the servers might be jammed for a quick and seamless upgrade. Hence, a manual upgrade through MIUI Downloads can be quick and easy if you follow our tutorial.
Before getting started, it is important to check if your handset is compatible. Stable MIUI 7 builds are available for Xiaomi Mi 3, Xiaomi Mi 4, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, Xiaomi Redmi Note, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Xiaomi Mi Pad and Xiaomi Mi Note. There’s still no word on when Xiaomi Mi 4i will receive the update.
You need to know that there are two builds of MIUI 7 stable version available for your smartphone: Fastboot, and Recovery. Updating your handset using the recovery build is easier, and it doesn’t wipe your existing files and settings. Fastboot requires you to download the Mi PC suite on your computer, and using this method wipes the files and settings on your device. To learn more about MIUI 7 builds, visit here.

If you’re using MIUI V5/MIUI 6 stable version on your device, you can use anyone of the following 3 methods to upgrade to MIUI 7.
Method 1: OTA update
You can use this method if you’re using MIUI V5/MIUI 6 stable version on your device. You will not receive OTA update on your device if you’re using China developer version or Global beta build.
Step 1: Find Updater app on your device -> Check for update.
You can use this method if you’re using MIUI V5/MIUI 6 stable version, or China developer version/Global beta build on your device. If you’re using China developer version/Global beta build, remember to wipe all user data in Recovery mode before flashing.
Step 1: Find your Xiaomi device here and download full ROM on your computer. Fastboot and recovery build ROMs are available for Xiaomi Mi 3, Xiaomi Mi 4, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, Xiaomi Redmi Note, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Xiaomi Mi Pad and Xiaomi Mi Note.
Step 2: Connect the Xiaomi smartphone you are updating to the PC using USB cable.
Step 3: Copy the ROM file into the root directory of the internal storage of your device. Make sure that you have not placed the file in any other folder.
You can use this method if you are using MIUI V5/MIUI 6 stable version on your device. You will not detect stable version update on your device if you are using China developer version or Global beta build.
Step 1: Download Mi PC Suite and install it on your computer.
Step 5: Wait untill the ROM is successfully flashed on your device, and welcome to the world of MIUI 7.
So hopefully now, you have a completely working MIUI 7 powered Xiaomi smartphone. Enjoy!
